cadeby inn

the cadeby inn is tucked away off the quiet road which runs through the middle of this picturesque village in south yorks and first impressions are good. the property has been recently renovated and judging by the external signage they've also had someone in doing their marketing - a positive sign of progress which raised my hopes of a decent lunch.

upon entering, further evidence of the owner's vision for the place is everywhere: the contemporary - if rather sterile and lifeless - interior design and the nicely presented menus and other internal marketing suggested an attention to detail. unfortunately, this hardwork was steadily undone from here. The choice of dishes on the menu was nothing short of dull, my meal arrived quickly, but was badly conceived and poorly executed. the service was poor: the young waitresses were trying too hard and kept interupting both my meal and my conversation and so we decided to skip dessert. after waiting 25 minutes for the bill we found they'd tried to overcharge us..

overall:
don't go a long way out of your way to visit this place as it's still trying to be - and charging you for - something the kitchen can't deliver. the marketing suggests they're trying to be more than just pub grub; the food says otherwise.
